Formula

MVA = (Share Price × Shares Outstanding) - Capital Invested

Example

The market value of a company is calculated by multiplying the share price by the number of outstanding shares. The result is then subtracted by the capital invested to determine the market value added.

Meaning

The Market Value Added (MVA) represents the excess return on investment that shareholders have achieved above the cost of capital. It measures a company's ability to generate returns in excess of its cost of capital, indicating its financial performance and competitiveness.
